Immigrate to Canada by providing care for children, the elderly or those with medical needs, or work as a live-in caregiver
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are 5-year pilot programs that let qualified caregivers and their family members come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents.
If you’ve been offered a job in Canada as a caregiver or have experience working in Canada as a caregiver, you may be able to apply for permanent residence through one of these pilots.
The application process will be different depending on your situation and how much qualifying work experience you have.
Under this method, eligible individuals will first receive a work permit to enter Canada and, after gaining two years of Canadian work experience in the field, will be able to obtain permanent residency for themselves and their families.
You may be eligible to apply for the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot, if you:
Ability to do the work: they use any past experience or training you have to decide if you’re able to do the work described in the NOC job description (lead statement).
Eligible applicants must also submit a Canadian work permit application at the same time as applying for residency in Canada, and if the applicant meets the general immigration requirements (health and no criminal history) in addition to the specific conditions listed, they will first receive a Canadian work permit. After starting work in Canada and gaining 2 years of experience, they will receive permanent residence for themselves and their family.
Family members
Your family members are also eligible to come with you to Canada. If they want to work or study while in Canada, you can include their work or study permit applications with your application.
